For your consideration, we have the ultimate in rare HH Scott audio gear. The Type 122 Dynaural Stereo Control Center Preamplifier is being sold as is, for Restoration. We acquired this "holy grail" gorgeous piece from a high end stereo shop in Southern Connecticut that closed up recently. This unit was used as a display piece so it had been sitting there for at least 50 years untouched on a mantel. Very clean on the outside, with only some blemish spots on the aluminum, and untouched on the inside, this unit is just stunning. The 10 12AX7 tubes that this unit uses were missing, (yes, it uses 10 of them) but the two Telefunken EM84's used for the Dynaural Noise Suppressor were still present under the cover. Also still present were the 6AV6, and the 6X4 tubes. Upon further research, we found that HH Scott manufactured this unit from 1960-61. It was a very expensive piece and apparently it did not sell well, and dealers got stuck with them. I would imagine the cost of the unit, and the fact that at this time in their production history, Scott was only manufacturing integrated amps, so it would be a hard sell to consumers if there were no current production power amps being produced. I just don't think they has anything to sell this preamp with. This is just my speculation though.
Once on our bench we took a look underneath and found the unit to be untouched and extremely clean as can be seen in the pictures attached. We went through and cleaned all the tube sockets. All pots and switches were cleaned and then treated with the appropriate Deoxit. The existing tubes tested strong on our Amplitrex AT1000 and were reinstalled. We loaded the unit with 12AX7's and brought the unit up slowly on a variac in order to reform the caps. The unit sounds really nice, and the Dynaural Noise Suppressor with the EM84 magic eye tubes is pretty cool. Just an awesome piece, that we were lucky enough to acquire. While the unit is functioning, it is being sold as is and for restoration. Being that this unit has never been worked on, we just wanted to get the unit up and running and pass it on to the fortunate new owner.
The preamp will be carefully packed for shipping. All tubes except the EM 84's will be removed, boxed and labeled for shipping. We don't think it is necessary to remove the 84's, but will do so upon request. The unit will be packed in a heavy duty, oversized box and it will be surrounded with several inches of Polyethylene foam on all sides. We take great pride in the items that we sell and make every effort to get them to their new owners in the same condition as when they leave our shop.
